Sperry Reservation Questions

Post by Sue Z »

Hi all!

Does anyone know how your group size affects your chance of getting a reservation at Sperry? If you have two people, for example, will they only give you a room that sleeps 2, or will they give you a room that sleeps more, if no doubles are left? Also, does anyone know how many rooms of each capacity are available at Sperry?

Thanks. I"ve done a couple of backpacking and day hiking trips in Glacier, but I'm new to the Sperry experience.

I once stayed by myself in a room at Granite Park that had beds for at least 4. So I am pretty sure they don't require, for example, a group of two to stay in only a double room. My guess is that they just fit groups into available rooms as best they can. They likely wait until the last minute to assign rooms so changes in reservations over the course of the summer don't screw things up.

Not sure.

This past September, Maia (10 year old daughter) and and I were in a room that could sleep 4 for 3 nights. ( We had LOTS of blankets) :)

They'll put you in a room at least big enough to handle your group, so a smaller group is technically easier as they can put you in any room as Jen and Orin mentioned. Larger groups IE 5 people are more difficult to fit since most of the rooms don't fit that many, so larger groups may find it harder to snag a reservation due to the difficulty accommodating.

Started at 8am this morning to submit a sperry reservation. Encountered lot's of server errors
on the web site, but after 10 minutes of attempts finally got it to accept. It says there
are already 477 requests ahead of mine. We'll have to wait and see what the lottery
provides.

I encountered the same server errors. Was trying from both my computer and my Ipad, and finally my Ipad was successful with getting to the reservation page. You both are ahead of me, along with 563 others. I'm not feeling that optimistic this year as I had only a window of 4 days to work with. Good luck everyone and let us know if you're successful!

I was trying for the first time (first GNP trip planned for Aug) and it conflicted with a 10am conf call I had. I got an error the first time, then had to contribute to my conf call, and got no error the 2nd time, but am # 967 as of 10:14EST.

Not terribly optimistic but we'll see!

And as luck would (not) have it -- despite having typed my email probably 1000s of times, I typod the "gmail" part of it. I have called and left a message, but wondering if this will be an issue (or automatically boots me because of a bounced back email). I guess they've got 900-some-odd requests before mine anyway. ;) Thank goodness I left the confirmation screen up when I had to get back to work stuff, and at least know I did it.

I'll try calling again in a day or so.

I started trying a couple of minutes before the 8:00 start time (just in case my clock was wrong!). Each refresh of the page got slower and slower as the magic hour got closer and then the errors started. I cheered when I got a form to fill out, but then when I submitted it, I got the error page again. :x Then I had to start all over trying to just get the form to come back up. In the end, I filled it out and tried to submit it three times before I got a confirmation. All of this happened over a total of eleven minutes, and I ended up with #653. Gah.

So much for my chances to introduce my Sweetie to Glacier with a decadent stay at Sperry. :? Ah well. He'll just have to come back with me again some other year!

Unfortunately, this does not bode well for the March backcountry permit rush, eh?

And don't panic if you don't get your reservation this round - beds will open up throughout the Spring and Summer. A few years back my friends and I snagged two prime nights at Sperry by keeping an eye on http://www.sperrychalet.com/vacancy_s.html and calling or submitting a request the minute I saw a vacancy (I got to the point where I could recognize an opening in our date range just by the color pattern on the page).

Good luck!

I'm in at Sperry and Granite. Not my first (or 2nd or 3rd) choice, but that is not
what is important. And as indicated, I'll keep a watch for some churn in
the availability and possibly make adjustments. As I recall, they start getting
cancellations around the end of May as the 30-day cancellation without
penalty begins to kick in.
