Thanks for this update on IWI, with quite a lot of good information.
Local skiers, start your wax!
My February skiing weekend at the inn was unforgettable. Around zero temp-wise, but after 3 days we were used to it.
I had no idea the inn was in such bad shape structurally.

On my way home from a Glacier winter camping trip a few years ago, I stopped in just to see what it looked like. It had that Glacier lodge vibe, historic looking and slightly rundown. I never did stay there. I hope it doesn't come out of the remodel being too sanitized.

from the article "Ski at your own risk and keep your expectations low,” Reavis wrote. “With more interest, I can groom more terrain as the winter progresses. And for the love of all good in this life, don’t hike on the groomed trails please.:

We had some groomed ski trails around here and people would sometimes walk right on them. ugh!

Do you know if they also have any specific snowshoe trails by chance as well? I suppose perhaps anything that wasn’t groomed maybe. I’ve always thought Essex could be a neat winter getaway. For cross country skiing/ snow shoeing/ reading a good book by a wood burning stove after having taken the train there. Some day we might do that perhaps.

That’s very cool somebody is still grooming the ski trails when possible.

Before the current owners, there were a few dedicated snowshoe trails. Most folks though snowshoed on the groomed cross country ski trails. There are numerous nearby Forest Service and Park Service trails where one can snowshoe. For those interested in this I suggest contacting the appropriate agency and be avalanche aware.
