I prefer the old trail status pages over the updated version on the website now LInk. While visually appealing and good for seeing high level closures, I have no desire to individually click each trail to see the update. On top of that, I have struggled on my computer to properly click on a trail to bring up the status, and on my phone it's nearly impossible.
So I thought I'd take a shot at recreating the trail status page. Next post will have the current snapshot - I have a lot of bugs to work out (some my fault, others not). If people find this useful, I can do weekend dumps of current state and/or daily updates with what changed. Feedback appreciated.

I totally agree with you. The new page is cool but functionally is a PITA.

Reminds me of the original software for big screen controls in my 2020 Subaru Outback. Took Subaru 3 years but they finally ditched some of the glitz and added functionality. Maybe the NPS will do the same.

I prefer the old trail status pages over the updated version on the website now LInk. While visually appealing and good for seeing high level closures, I have no desire to individually click each trail to see the update. On top of that, I have struggled on my computer to properly click on a trail to bring up the status, and on my phone it's nearly impossible...
Agree... the new status page is "cute" but not as useful as the old format.
Any thoughts on when highline might open? Looks like it was a week after GTSR last year. I’m guessing they start working on it once they get Logan pass visitor center ready.
we are hoping to hike it on 7/10 to spend the night at granite park. I don’t mind hiking up swiftcurrent to get there but don’t really want to do it via the loop trail. our preference is to take the shuttle from swiftcurrent motel to catch the Logan pass shuttle at at Mary’s & the. We can hike out via swiftcurrent the next morning.
I see on the status trail map that the Rimrock Handline was installed 6/15, hoping that's a good sign it will open soon. Anyone have any insight as to if that was a good indicator of opening in previous years?

I would say that that is definitely a good sign but it probably also depends on the snow cover on the trail just beyond that. The Park Service does not want to have hikers successfully get through the Rimrock section only to slip off the trail and onto the road just beyond that. There was a serious accident a few years ago when one of the trail crew workers did that.
For those interested in the history of such things, I will add that the cable was first installed at the Rimrock in 1971. There was no cable at the rimrock in 1970, the first year that I worked in the Park. As I recall, in 1971 and for some years after that, the cable was threaded through what appeared to be a green garden hose. causing us to quip in a rather lame fashion that the trail should be renamed the "Garden hose trail" (sorry about that). I think the last few times i have been through that section it is just a bare cable.
