Re: Composting toilets at Sperry - 1994

Its surprising there wasn't some performance guarantee in the contract for the composting toilet? I had a chat with the ranger who was maintaining the toilets at Sperry and it sounded like they never made it through the first winter. I understand that its a harsh climate, but its not like snow and s...

I think they should rebuild some of these historic lodges.

Re: 2024 Ticketed Entry

I understand that they're still kind of experimenting and testing and trying to figure out what works best, but I can't see any of these changes helping much. Having 3 different reservations for different areas of the park, and going from a 3 day pass to a 1 day pass, won't change things much, and w...

Re: Lake McDonald Creek Home-Hungry horse news

I love the quote from the Amblers,"We didn't know we needed a permit".... They're from San Diego and are wealthy enough to buy one of the inholder properties in Glacier but yet they don't know that permits are required for building a house? I think this is more likely a case of rich Califo...

Re: Eastern Sierras Trip Report

Is this near the Mammoth Mountain Ski Resort?
Pictures are gorgeous, I've thought of skiing there, but never thought of it as a hiking destination, definitely looks worth considering.

I've heard it can be really buggy. How was it for you and when were you there?

Re: Online store now available.

In the old days DaveP had a similar online store and there were buttons for sale, similar to the old-school political election campaign buttons. I used to have one pinned to my pack, not sure if any other hikers ever noticed it. But what I was thinking of is something that we could hand out to peopl...

Re: NPS Survey- 2023 Public and Stakeholder Engagement

I really don't like the idea of RecreationDotGov controlling all the reservations for everything in Glacier. I don't think the RecDotGov site works very well for campground reservations in general but its particularly bad for backcountry reservations. And its terrible for trying to do a mix of reser...

Re: General site updates

This update was mainly some cleanup and minor reorganization, that hopefully the users will never notice, but that will hopefully make future updates and bug fixes easier. There were a couple minor corrections of some mileage and elevation data, but the main update was to modify the Route Planner so...

Re: Route Planner Bugs and Updates!

Is having the Lat, Lon, and Altitude useful on the RoutePlanner?
I was thinking about removing it to make the display a little cleaner.

Route Planner Bugs and Updates!

I'm working on some Updates for the RoutePlanner, mainly to make it work better with the new Backcountry Site Details. But in the process I'm also trying to clean-up any bugs and incorrect or missing mileages or elevations. If you know of any please let me know, and I'll try to get them added to the...
